Halloween 2026: Keeping Our Little Ghosts & Goblins Safe!

An Important Halloween Safety Message from the Allegheny Valley Regional Police Department

Halloween Trick-or-Treating Schedule

Date: Saturday, October 31, 2026
Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

The Allegheny Valley Regional Police Department would like to wish all residents, families, and visitors a safe and enjoyable Halloween!

Halloween is a wonderful community tradition that brings families and neighbors together. As children prepare to hit the streets in search of sweet treats, our department encourages everyone to practice responsible trick-or-treating and remain aware of their surroundings.

Safety is a shared responsibility, and a few simple precautions can make all the difference.

🚓 Trick-or-Treating Safety Tips

Adult Supervision: Young children should always be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or responsible adult. Older children should travel in groups, follow a predetermined route, and communicate their plans with a parent or guardian.

Pedestrian Safety: Always use sidewalks and marked crosswalks when available. Look left, right, and left again before crossing. Never enter the roadway unexpectedly or cross between parked vehicles.

Visibility: Wear brightly colored costumes or incorporate reflective materials into clothing and treat bags. Carry a flashlight or glow stick to increase visibility during evening hours.

Neighborhood Awareness: Remain in familiar, well-lit areas and only approach homes that appear welcoming to trick-or-treaters. Never enter an unfamiliar residence or vehicle.

Candy Inspection: Parents and guardians should inspect candy and treats before consumption. Discard items with damaged or suspicious packaging and check for potential food allergens.

Personal Safety: Remind children to avoid interacting with unknown individuals in situations that make them uncomfortable. Children should know how to contact a trusted adult and call 911 during an emergency.

🚗 Motorist Safety: Slow Down & Stay Alert!

Halloween brings increased pedestrian activity throughout our residential neighborhoods, particularly during the designated 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM trick-or-treating period.

Motorists are reminded to reduce their speed, eliminate distractions, obey traffic laws, and remain particularly cautious near intersections, driveways, and parked vehicles.

Children can be unpredictable, especially when excited about trick-or-treating. Drivers should anticipate sudden movements and give pedestrians additional space.

A moment of distraction can have lifelong consequences. Please drive responsibly.

🕒 Official Trick-or-Treating Hours

Allegheny Valley’s designated trick-or-treating hours are Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

We encourage participating residents to have their exterior lights on, keep walkways clear, and remain attentive to pedestrian activity throughout the evening.

💙 Our Commitment to Community Safety

The Allegheny Valley Regional Police Department remains committed to protecting our residents and ensuring our neighborhoods remain safe for families and children.

We encourage everyone to exercise caution, look out for one another, and help make this Halloween a positive experience for our entire community.
